Description

WRITTEN BY EXPERTS IN CHILD PSYCHOLOGY

Panda Momo loves playing with his friends in kindergarten. One day he came to kindergarten all happy to see them and wanted to join them in building brick towers. But his friend Tony reminded him to be careful not to knock over the tower because it had happened to him before and disrupted their play. When he heard these accusations, Momo was ashamed, and then he became very angry, which resulted in kicking Tony twice.

Momo had a hard time dealing with the feelings of shame and guilt, and consequently anger, so with the help of his teacher, he learned a technique for calming intense emotional reactions and self-regulation of emotions, called the bubble technique. Only when he calmed down, could he become aware of his choices, that is, that he could choose a different or more effective behaviour in similar situations.

The Challenging Behaviors picture book series brings stories for children that teach them to recognize unpleasant emotions when they appear in the body, to calm down, and to choose more acceptable ways of behaving. Picture books also contain advice for parents, educators, and caregivers, explaining the role of adults in the process of co-regulation of the emotions that are behind challenging behaviors and what happens in the child’s neurophysiology when we notice them.
